How to block Facebook on iPhone (app and Safari)

Larry V. October 8, 2026 6 min read

To block Facebook on iPhone, block the Facebook app plus facebook.com and m.facebook.com in your browser. Good news if you still need to message people: Messenger is a separate app, so you can lock the feed and keep your chats. Here's how to set it up.

FEED LOCKED, CHATS OPENFacebook: blockedMessenger: a separate appfacebook.comm.facebook.com
The short answer

Open Settings, then Screen Time. Under App Limits, give Facebook a 1-minute daily limit with Block at End of Limit turned on. Then go to Content & Privacy Restrictions, open Web Content, choose Limit Adult Websites, and add facebook.com, www.facebook.com and m.facebook.com to Never Allow. Set a Screen Time passcode, ideally one someone else chooses. Leave the Messenger app alone if you want to keep your chats.

What makes Facebook different

Facebook is less of a single feed than a bundle: the News Feed, Reels, Groups, Marketplace, events, and messages. Some of those are genuinely useful, like a neighborhood group or selling a couch, and that's usually how the scroll starts. You open the app for one thing and the feed is right there.

As with the other apps in this series, iOS blocks whole apps and whole websites, not sections of them, so you can't block the feed and keep Marketplace inside the Facebook app. But Facebook has one advantage the others don't: your messages live in a separate app.

Keep Messenger, block the feed

Since Messenger is its own app, blocking the Facebook app doesn't touch it. That makes Facebook one of the easier platforms to cut back on without going silent:

  • Block Facebook, keep Messenger. Your chats and calls keep working while the feed, Reels and notifications are locked away.
  • Block both if messages pull you back. If Messenger keeps sending you into Facebook through shared posts and links, add the Messenger app and messenger.com to your block too.

Option 1: Facebook's own time reminder

Facebook's Settings & privacy includes a time management section, called Your time on Facebook in many versions of the app. There you can see your daily average and set a daily time reminder. Menu names change between updates, so search Facebook's settings for "time" if you can't find it.

Like Instagram's limit, which we cover in our Instagram guide, it's a reminder, not a block. When it appears you can dismiss it and keep scrolling, and you can turn it off whenever you like.

Option 2: Block Facebook with Screen Time (free)

This is the same two-part method from our Reddit and TikTok guides.

Step 1: Block the Facebook app

  1. Open Settings and tap Screen Time.
  2. Tap App Limits, then Add Limit.
  3. Open the Social category, select Facebook (and Messenger only if you want it blocked too), and tap Next.
  4. Set 1 minute to block it almost entirely, or a budget like 15 minutes if you use Groups or Marketplace.
  5. Turn on Block at End of Limit. This toggle only appears once you've set a Screen Time passcode.

Step 2: Block facebook.com in Safari and other browsers

The full Facebook site works in a mobile browser, including the feed and Reels, so skipping this step leaves the habit one tap away.

  1. In Settings, go to Screen Time, then Content & Privacy Restrictions, and turn it on.
  2. Tap App Store, Media, Web & Games (called Content Restrictions on older iOS versions), then Web Content.
  3. Choose Limit Adult Websites to unlock the Never Allow list.
  4. Under Never Allow, add facebook.com, www.facebook.com and m.facebook.com.

Test each address in Safari and in any other browser you have installed, and add any variant that still loads.

Step 3: Set a passcode you don't know

A passcode you chose yourself is easy to type back in. Have a partner or friend set it if you can. We compare this in detail in Stryct vs Apple Screen Time.

Option 3: Block Facebook with Stryct

  1. Open Stryct and go to the Blocklist tab.
  2. Under Apps, tap Add App and select Facebook. Leave Messenger off the list if you want to keep chatting.
  3. Switch to Websites, tap Add Website, and add facebook.com. Add m.facebook.com too, to be safe.
  4. Choose how the block runs: Block Now for a full break from 15 minutes up to 30 days, Daily Ration for a daily budget that locks until midnight once it's used up, or Schedules to block it during set hours.

Once a session starts, there's no snooze and no button inside Stryct to end it early, and uninstall protection keeps you from deleting the app mid-session.

How to make it stick

  • Give Marketplace and Groups a budget, not a free pass. If you need them, a short Daily Ration covers a quick check without leaving the feed wide open.
  • Turn off Facebook notifications. In Settings, then Notifications, switch Facebook off, so birthday alerts and group activity don't reopen the app for you.
  • Watch the side doors. If you swap Facebook's feed for Instagram or YouTube, add those to the same blocklist. Our YouTube guide covers that one.
The Stryct team's take, clearly labeled as opinion

Facebook is the rare app where you can split the useful part from the scroll without much effort, because Messenger already lives on its own. Keep the conversations, lock the feed, and see how little of the rest you actually miss.

Can I block Facebook on iPhone without deleting the app?
Yes. In Settings, then Screen Time, then App Limits, give Facebook a 1-minute daily limit and turn on Block at End of Limit, which requires a Screen Time passcode. The app stays installed but locks after a minute each day. An app blocker like Stryct can also block it for a set session without deleting it.
Will blocking Facebook also block Messenger?
No. Messenger is a separate app, so blocking the Facebook app leaves it working. If you want to block messages too, add the Messenger app and messenger.com to your App Limits or blocklist as well.
Does Facebook have a daily time limit?
Facebook offers a daily time reminder in its time management settings, often labeled Your time on Facebook. It's a reminder you can dismiss rather than a block. To actually stop access, use a Screen Time App Limit or an app blocker like Stryct.
How do I block facebook.com in Safari on iPhone?
Go to Settings, then Screen Time, then Content & Privacy Restrictions. Under Web Content, choose Limit Adult Websites, then add facebook.com, www.facebook.com and m.facebook.com to the Never Allow list. Test each address in Safari and in any other browser you use.
