How to block Snapchat on iPhone (and keep your streaks)

Larry V. October 7, 2026 6 min read

To block Snapchat on iPhone, limit or block the Snapchat app with Screen Time or an app blocker, and add snapchat.com to your blocked websites. If streaks are what keep you there, you don't have to choose between all or nothing: a short daily budget leaves time to snap your friends without the endless scroll.

The short answer

Open Settings, then Screen Time. Under App Limits, give Snapchat a 1-minute daily limit to block it, or about 10 minutes to keep your streaks, with Block at End of Limit turned on. Then go to Content & Privacy Restrictions, open Web Content, choose Limit Adult Websites, and add snapchat.com, www.snapchat.com and web.snapchat.com to Never Allow. Set a Screen Time passcode, ideally one someone else chooses.

Why Snapchat is hard to step away from

Snapchat pulls you back in two different ways. The first is social: streaks, the count of consecutive days you and a friend have snapped each other, reward opening the app every single day. Miss a day and the number disappears, which makes a break feel like it costs something.

The second is the scroll. Stories and Spotlight, Snapchat's feed of short videos, work like any other endless feed. Most people don't lose their evening to sending snaps; they lose it to what they tap on afterwards.

As with Instagram, there's one limit to know up front: on iPhone, Screen Time and app blockers block whole apps, not sections of them. You can't block Spotlight and keep chats open. What you can do is decide how much Snapchat you get per day, and when.

What about Snapchat's own settings?

As of this writing, Snapchat doesn't offer a personal daily time limit the way TikTok or Instagram do. Its Family Center lets a parent see who a teen is talking to, but it isn't a screen time tool for your own account. So any limit has to come from your iPhone or from a blocker.

Option 1: Block or limit Snapchat with Screen Time (free)

Step 1: Block or limit the Snapchat app

  1. Open Settings and tap Screen Time.
  2. Tap App Limits, then Add Limit.
  3. Find Snapchat in the category it's listed under, select it, and tap Next.
  4. Set 1 minute to block it almost entirely, or around 10 minutes if you want to keep your streaks going.
  5. Turn on Block at End of Limit. This toggle only appears once you've set a Screen Time passcode.

Step 2: Block snapchat.com in Safari

Snapchat is mostly an app, but parts of it, like Spotlight videos and Snapchat for Web, are reachable through snapchat.com. Blocking it closes that gap.

  1. In Settings, go to Screen Time, then Content & Privacy Restrictions, and turn it on.
  2. Tap App Store, Media, Web & Games (called Content Restrictions on older iOS versions), then Web Content.
  3. Choose Limit Adult Websites to unlock the Never Allow list.
  4. Under Never Allow, add snapchat.com, www.snapchat.com and web.snapchat.com.

Step 3: Set a passcode you don't know

A passcode you chose yourself is easy to type back in, especially when a streak is about to expire. Have a partner or friend set it if you can. We compare this in detail in Stryct vs Apple Screen Time, and the same method is covered step by step in our Reddit guide.

Option 2: Block or limit Snapchat with Stryct

  1. Open Stryct and go to the Blocklist tab.
  2. Under Apps, tap Add App and select Snapchat.
  3. Switch to Websites, tap Add Website, and add snapchat.com.
  4. Pick the mode that fits: Block Now for a full break from 15 minutes up to 30 days, Daily Ration for a small daily budget that locks until midnight once it's used up, or Schedules to block it during set hours.

Once a session starts, there's no snooze and no button inside Stryct to end it early, and uninstall protection keeps you from deleting the app mid-session.

What happens to your streaks?

A full block will usually end your streaks, since they depend on snapping each other within a day. If that's a dealbreaker, you have two honest options:

  • Keep a small daily budget. Sending a snap to your streak friends takes a minute or two. A 10-minute daily budget covers that and runs out fast if you start watching Stories or Spotlight.
  • Let the streaks go. Many people who take a real break find the streaks mattered less than they expected. If someone matters to you, a text works too.

How to make it stick

  • Turn off Snapchat notifications. In Settings, then Notifications, switch Snapchat off, so you decide when to open it rather than the app.
  • Snap first, at a set time. Send your streak snaps at the same moment each day, then close the app, instead of letting them pull you in all day long.
  • Watch the side doors. If you cut Spotlight and drift to TikTok, Reels or YouTube Shorts, add those to the same blocklist. Our YouTube guide covers that one.
The Stryct team's take, clearly labeled as opinion

Streaks are clever because they turn opening an app into a promise to a friend. You can keep the promise without giving Snapchat your whole evening: decide on a few minutes a day, send your snaps, and let the budget close the app for you.

Can I block Snapchat on iPhone without deleting the app?
Yes. In Settings, then Screen Time, then App Limits, give Snapchat a 1-minute daily limit and turn on Block at End of Limit, which requires a Screen Time passcode. The app stays installed but locks after a minute each day. An app blocker like Stryct can also block it for a set session without deleting it.
Will blocking Snapchat end my streaks?
Usually, yes. Streaks depend on you and a friend snapping each other within a day, so a full block will likely end them. To keep them, give Snapchat a short daily budget, such as 10 minutes, instead of blocking it completely.
Does Snapchat have a screen time limit?
Not for your own account, as of this writing. Snapchat's Family Center lets parents see a teen's contacts, but it doesn't offer a personal daily time limit. To limit Snapchat, use an App Limit in Screen Time or an app blocker like Stryct.
How do I block Snapchat only at night?
Screen Time's Downtime can block apps on a schedule, though it applies to every app not on your Always Allowed list and can be turned off from Settings. In Stryct, Schedules block your blocklist, including Snapchat, at the days and times you choose, such as every night from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m.
